Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1/4 cup milk (for frosting)
- 1 tsp ground ginger (for frosting)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and molasses until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- While the brownies are baking, prepare the frosting by mixing together the butter, powdered sugar, milk, ginger, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Once the brownies are cool, spread the frosting on top. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
Don’t overmix the batter to keep brownies tender. Check doneness early to avoid overbaking.
