Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar (if using), and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk until just combined; do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times.
- Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
- Cut biscuits with a biscuit cutter or glass.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Work quickly with cold butter to avoid overhandling the dough. For extra flavor, brush with melted butter after baking.
