A delightful and moist holiday favorite, this Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread is perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert, featuring a rich buttery flavor and vibrant sprinkles.

  • Total Time: 65 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (210g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style; avoid nonpareils)
  • Optional Topping: 1 tablespoon coarse sugar
  • Additional sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line or grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar together until smooth.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, ensuring they are well incorporated. Stir in vanilla and buttermilk.
  5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing!
  6. Gently fold in the sprinkles, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. If desired, sprinkle with coarse sugar or more sprinkles.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter; it’s okay to have a few lumps. Use jimmies instead of nonpareils to keep the sprinkles intact during baking.
