Ingredients
- Baguette or French bread
- Olive oil
- Onions (preferably yellow or sweet)
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Balsamic vinegar
- Fresh herbs (e.g., thyme or rosemary)
- Cheese (optional, such as goat cheese or cream cheese)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch thick slices and place them on a baking sheet. Brush with olive oil.
- Bake the bread for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy.
- While the bread is baking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add thinly sliced onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook until caramelized, stirring frequently (about 15-20 minutes).
- Once the onions are caramelized, add a splash of balsamic vinegar and stir to combine.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Top each crostini with a spoonful of the caramelized onions.
- Optionally, add cheese or fresh herbs on top.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
To speed up the caramelization, use a wide skillet and watch the onions closely to avoid burning. Cheese can be added for extra creaminess.
