A simple and elegant snack featuring golden crostini topped with sweet, caramelized onions, perfect for last-minute guests or as a quick appetizer.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

  • Baguette or French bread
  • Olive oil
  • Onions (preferably yellow or sweet)
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., thyme or rosemary)
  • Cheese (optional, such as goat cheese or cream cheese)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch thick slices and place them on a baking sheet. Brush with olive oil.
  3. Bake the bread for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  4. While the bread is baking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Add thinly sliced onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook until caramelized, stirring frequently (about 15-20 minutes).
  6. Once the onions are caramelized, add a splash of balsamic vinegar and stir to combine.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  8. Top each crostini with a spoonful of the caramelized onions.
  9. Optionally, add cheese or fresh herbs on top.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

To speed up the caramelization, use a wide skillet and watch the onions closely to avoid burning. Cheese can be added for extra creaminess.
